"Englishes"

Compare and contrast Pope's view of "Englishes" with the video you watched.

There are many different dialects, or as Pope call's them, "englishes". These dialects are often associated with certain stereotypes and contribute to furthering divides between races, classes, and regions of the U.S. I watched the video on how race, specifically being a black American, influences dialect and in turn, effects many other aspects. Language is a crucial key to success, and when we label certain dialects as more successful than others, we also limit who can be successful.
